Left: Piper- 7 days old
Right: Finley- 13 days old
I don't want to constantly compare the girls (lest Finley get a complex about growing up in the shadow of her giant headed sister), but especially in these early days, it's hard for me not to think back to when Piper was an infant, and compare our experiences and memories. Was she ever this little? Did she have trouble sleeping? Were we this tired? (Answers: No, yes, and I think so...I may have blocked that memory out).
I know each of my girls is unique, and I want to encourage their differences as they start to form their personalities, but it's also fun to discover similarities...even if they're just physical characteristics for now. (And if it involves recreating a photoshoot in an adorable onesie? All the better!)
People always ask if I think Fin looks like Piper. And sometimes I think they're identical...but sometimes not at all. Fin is smaller- both in length and weight (1.5" shorter and 6oz lighter at birth) and yes...she has a much smaller head. (It's around the 60th percentile vs Piper's consistent 99th). Her hair is shorter, and blonder. But other than a few measurable details like that- the rest of it is more subjective, and up for debate. Finley still is her father's daughter (thus, she tends to look a lot like Piper too) but there's something about her that is uniquely her. She has some wild faces, and is fond of sticking her tongue out, expressions that are hers alone. And then again, there are moments when she furrows her brow, or stretches her face in a certain way where she could be Piper's twin, one and a half years later.
What do you think? Do we have another mini Dustin on our hands? Or does Finley have a distinct look?
I think it will be fascinating to see how they both grow and change over the years...But one thing I already know: I love each of them, completely. Head to teeny toes.
They're both super adorable <3
ReplyDeleteWe think so! ;)
DeleteDo they have the same outfit on in both pictures? That is so cute!
ReplyDeleteYou betcha! (I promise I won't make Finley recreate every adorable moment we captured of Piper...poor thing)
DeleteJust the most awesome ever not comparison, comparison post. Seeing those little newborn baby legs all scrunched up to what I know is a soft, squooshy diaper clad bottom is just too much! My uterus may have quivered. Just a little. Since ain't nobody got time for that over here, I will be quite appeased by getting to come meet Finley and see some Piper cuteness in action!
ReplyDeleteIt will be so much fun to read about how they grow and change on here, too! :)
can't wait for you to snuggle my girls in person. You need a newborn in your arms. Even if it isn't yours....
