Jackpot! (update)

So... I made the hole bigger.

I couldn't help it... I'm excited about the floor and I would tear it all up right now if I could but we're not at that stage yet.

Here's what I found:

1.) I can stick a pry bar under the last layer of junk and break up the layers of crap.

2.) The boards of the hard wood flooring appear to be twice as thick as the rest of the house... which could be really cool looking.

3.) For whatever reason, somebody laid down a sub floor and linoleum over the EXACT SAME linoleum. The only difference between the two patterns is shades of blue which could be caused by fading. Who does that?

Pictured: a piece of the oldest linoleum is to the far right (layer 4), and just to the left of it is the newer piece (layer 6).

  1. Awesome! I'm going to be Mr. Safety and recommended that you follow the guidelines outlined here:

    http://www.naturalhandyman.com/iip/inffloor/RFCIRecommended9-04.pdf

which will protect you from an asbestos risk there might be. (It also gives some tips for how to do it more quickly than with a pry-bar.)

Although a p100 respirator isn't required, I have two that you could borrow if you like.
