Goodbye my love...

Did you hear the news?

Google Reader. Is retiring.

Noooooooooo.....

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

WHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!

Ok, I realize that to 98% of the world, my reaction is dramatic. Actually....98% percent of the world probably doesn't even know what I'm talking about. It's not exactly a necessity in life after all. But to a blog addict like myself (and probably you...), an online program organizing all my many (many) online haunts, is priceless.

The bright side to this RSS nightmare (draMAtic!) is that we have until July 1st to figure out a replacement. I'm currently searching for an alternative that I love to house all my web friends' feeds. If you have a system or site you like, please share in the comments!

And in the meantime, you can follow Bowdenisms on Blog Lovin'.

Piper is busy searching for suitable alternatives. (Or she's hopelessly engrossed
in a farm animal app while I shamelessly mess with her hair...one of the two).

  1. NOOOOOOOOO! I am as sad as you are. I have started using Feedly and I am liking it so far. They have some resources on there that show you how to make it most like your old Reader. At first I was like "I hate this, it's different from Reader" but then I realized "this might actually be better"...you know stages of grief and all of that...

    1. I'm totally in stages of grief! I like feedly...I'm just resistant to change, so even if it's better, it's going to take me a bit to get on board.

  2. I'm totally with you and I'm mad at Google about it! I've tried feedly and newsblur and both have pros and cons....I have yet to find one that I like for both the mobile version and the "any-browser-I-happen-to-be-on" version -- so far I've liked feedly the best on most computers/browsers, but newsblur's iphone app the best. So the search continues. I've also tried The Old Reader, which is pretty much just like google in terms of layout, but....didn't work as well so I nixed it already. WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US?!?

  3. I use Feedly on my ipad- I rarely use google reader on my computer alone anymore, and i think Feedly is BETTER! I said it. It's better. There are a few options as to how to read it- like by the day, still by your categories. I think it's much much better visually. Boo ya. Not sure if you can get Feedly not on an ipad... just throwing it out there! Google is stupid for taking it down, what's the point?

    1. I haven't downloaded an ap for my phone yet. A little bit of me isn't sure if I need one more thing to distract me....But the transition to feedly was easy, so I can't really complain!

  4. I heard about feedly too. I hear the transition is as simple as something like that can be.

  5. I felt the same way when I found out. I looked into several options and I think I've decided on Bloglovin. I liked that I could read the posts in Google Reader, but I know that it probably helps with numbers for the sites that I like with Bloglovin.

    1. I like bloglovin' too. I never got all the way into it because reader was still an option...but now I might have to look into it further....
